# About me
Michael Miro spent most of his life in Oakland, California until he moved to Taos New Mexico in 2013. While in the Bay Area he was exposed to glass and was peripherally involved with the medium but he was primarily a graphic artist, printer and arts activist. After relocating to Taos he established a glass studio and became involved in the arts community. He was a founding member of the Taos Institute for Glass Arts, worked to establish the Taos Art Glass Invitational, served on the boards of Glass Alliance-New Mexico, Taos Arts Organization, and the Taos Arts Council. In 2012 he withdrew from all organizational involvement except for the Taos Arts Council to focus on his own glass work. Michael's interests and inspiration are diverse. His interest in modernism and specifically Mid-century modern design influences his functional work. His fine art work is generally abstract but is always evolving. Music and social movements inspire him and provide much of his thinking about art. Presently he is inspired by the art, fashion and music coming from the youth culture in Japan and Korea. His last exhibit of 20 wall pieces call Kabukimono tracks the connection between traditional Kabuki and the contemporary Japanese pop culture.
