Hi there! It's been awhile, but I dropped by to wish you a happy birthday.
I hope all is going well for you. It's challenging to keep up with every artist here on
DA, but here's a digital cake I hope you'll enjoy. ^^

Your very welcome.
I tried that app on my phone, but I think it slowed
down somehow, but at the time, I had a...actually I still have
a government phone. XD It no longer gets internet. XD
Things have been interesting so far. Never a dull moment I always say. ^^
I've been super busy since I started working at a yacht cruise, and haven't
had enough time to work on any of my creative projects ever since, until
recently. I figured out a lateral or indirect method on how to make time for art,
but it's kind of a temporary method, depending on my situation. But it somehow worked.
And I was able to squeeze in some time to draw and color, and even posted my "Meet the Artist"
meme. Been wanting to do one ever since I've seen enough artist making them. I wanted to join
that band wagon as well as I thought it was a really cool idea to give watchers and fellow artist
a general idea of the artist behind the art works.
Despite my busy schedule though I still do visit DA almost every day, but my time online is limited.
I miss being more active when I was constantly sharing thoughtful comments on many art works here.
As a writer, it was always allot of fun to make it worth everyone's while. I kind of still do, just not as much
as I would have liked. But the birthday notification, the status and journal updates as well as new deviations
make it just a little bit easier for me to keep up with you guys. And sometimes, I'll just scroll through the watchlist
and visit people's pages to see how everyone is doing and give my greetings.

That sounds awesome Joey! I saw some of the Meet the Artist pictures too they are great. And I know how you feel, time has flown by for me without being able to make art everyday like I used to. I'll keep my fingers crossed for more art in the near future. 😊

Thank you. ^^
I finally posted my "meet the artist" pic.
It left me feeling very sleepy during my work day, and I got home
too mentally tired to anything else, but I'm just glad I got some art work done for
a change.

Oh hey, I was just reading up on Leonardo Da Vinci in the wikipedia. He really is a very multi-talented artist. I was doing a bit of research on his biography just to get an idea of what the life of an artist supposed to be.
At this day and age, being an artist is still difficult, perhaps not as difficult as it was back in the days, but being an artist surrounded by non artist folks can be very challenging. I noticed from reading your bio. It was really a coincidence that I was just reading up on him earlier during the day.
I was researching ways on how to escape the rat race. It's a man made system that can be broken. I just have to figure out exactly how. That's the one thing no one on the site seem to explain much. They only state the traps of the rat race, but never really explain how exactly can we get out of it. I can only guess that it must be up to ourselves to draw our own map and figure out what works best. If that's the case, I wish they would say that at least. I guess any information is better than nothing. ^^

Yeah Leonardo DaVinci was one of my inspirations when I was in middle school. :] I guess it all started from reading The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. I still have that book! I remember doing extensive research on his life, printing out a whole bunch of papers and reading every biography on him in my high school library. He was so smart and multitalented. I guess it was easier and harder back then in some ways. Easier because there were less distractions for him to go and learn all that stuff he learned and harder because he was a complete Renaissance man, which must have been very lonely, to be that smart and ahead of his time.
I completely understand what you mean by escaping the rat race. I try to study the lives of people who inspire me and see what they did. Not just historical figures like Leonardo DaVinci but modern artists who go against the grain and aren't really conventional. People like Kat Von D (a tattoo artist) and someone I like to watch on Youtube named Claire Marshall. I know these are kind of girly examples lol, but they really inspire me as a young independent successful creative women.
But your right, no one gives a map to those of us who want to escape the rat race. I think the best thing to do would be to surround your self with things that inspire you, people who inspire you and try to become the person you would want to meet in the future. :]

Any source of inspiration will certainly do. ^^
I'm currently working with a small team of artist where we started our own company by collaboration. We decided to combine our strengths, skills, and resources to help one another produce the projects that each of us had in mind. It was a rough start, considering how we had different work schedules and other obligations, but we managed to get together on occasion and worked on a comic. On my own, it would certainly take too long, and at the rate of my current situation, I won't be going anywhere anytime soon. But I do believe I can still change that somehow.
DA here, is a great place to start, and has unlimited possibilities to work with. I was trying to save money to invest in a scanner, but somehow I lost my savings. Don't know how it happened, but I can't really sweat it, I'll have to work with what I have and keep it moving. Obstacles will slow me down, but it can't stop me as long as I keep pushing through. There's more than one way to get a scanner. Even if I can't afford one, there's always a possibility that I may be rewarded with one. Money is just one of the major means, but it certainly isn't the only means.
I gotta get back into drawing again. allot of distraction has greatly affected my focus and concentration. It's a constant thing, but I've got to keep fighting this, even if it takes going somewhere else to draw, like a book store, or anyplace where I can focus. Not only that, but I have to be very discreet that my folks won't suspect that I'm going somewhere just to draw. Everyday, I'm always calculating ideas, always thinking and figuring stuff out. I'm pretty much a tactician. XD After years of walking on eggshells around non artist people, I eventually developed this skill. allot of it is inspired from my research and fascination for the military, particularly the special force branch of black Operations. Allot of their methods are pretty cool to implement, and I use allot of it for my daily ventures. ^^

Wow, that's pretty cool that you and your friends started your own company. And I totally get what you mean about the scanner. I have been wanting some high quality scans of my art, not just silly Instagram pictures lol.
Focusing is hard! I'm constantly trying to draw everyday, even if it's just some small gestures from a book or online, but sometimes school, chores, responsibilities just come up and take all my time, you know. If I don't draw or write or do something creative, it pretty much feels like a wasted day.

It really does feel like a wasted day for me as well. This sort of thing has been going on this way for years, and I'm still just as determine to change that.
So many people would tell me the same thing. "Go on food stamps or welfare, get a stable job,etc ...) Everything that has nothing to do with my talents. The situation demands so much of our time and energy, it's not fair. It leaves me with that question, when is my life really going to begin? All this stuff I'm doing is no way of living. This is all mechanical, which is zapping the life out of me slowly. We're being forced into a lifestyle that is only making us miserable. It's like forcing a doctor to pick up a mop instead of a stethoscope. All that life saving knowledge would go to waste. Or giving a cop, a cooking apron instead of a bullet proof vest. This is exactly what most non artist are doing to us. Putting us in places out of our elements. Like a fish out of water. In many of my regular jobs, I've had a hard time keeping up, and getting the job done on time. The desire was just never there to begin with. None of these jobs I've worked was what I've wanted, and the results often shows later on down the road. Not that I couldn't perform well, it's just the result of never wanting these positions in the first place. but at the time, I got little to no choice in the matter. I'm surrounded by retail stores.
Ah, something has got to give, especially if we're trying hard enough. It's the kind of thing that makes any artist want to shout to the world, "Just give me what I want and I'll show you what I can really do!" XD But of coarse we pretty much have to go get it really. XD

You know I heard a quote that said, you have to do what feeds your soul, or else you're just committing spiritual suicide. I feel like a lot of these people who just follow the routine and are spiritually dead just want to push your towards what they know. I think everyone has some sort of passion, it just depends on whether you act on it. Sometimes these people don't want to break their routine and they don't want you to do something they don't understand. I guess I am kind of reflecting on my own situation a little.
And you're so right! As artists we kind of have to do everything ourselves, but hey, if it was easy everyone would do it

Yesterday, I finally drew a character of mine on my sketch book. I was actually happy that the results came out better than I expected. I was almost convinced that I was rather rusty. But, I took my time drawing it, while using a paused video game as a general reference to establish the character's pose. ^^
