I've just finished reading your fanfic, 'a match made in hell' for Billy and Mandy.
(Dear god you have unimaginable writing skills that even brought me to tears)
Are you going to write the last chapter?
I must know
It was probably the most magnificent and in character Billyxmandy fanfic ive ever read.
Pleasepleaseplease ;^;
I understand your most likely rather busy with life, so i understand if you cant.

Hi there! I apologise for replying so slowly - haven't been on the computer much lately, but I', back now.
Thank you so much! I saw your review and will certainly reply to that as well.
I've actually had the last chapter in my head for the past...oh, 6 years or so. It's sitting in there mulling, but just the same as it was back then. You know, I've been seriously considering starting up a new fanfic, but I have a rule against starting new projects when I have unfinished ones...so the last chapter may be out in a reasonable time, actually. Keep your eyes peeled - I certainly have the intent to finish it.
Thanks again, I'm flattered! And thanks for the watch~

No worries! How couldn't I follow, with those props? Just, damn.
Thanks, the same to you! I actually have been seriously considering a beast Ganon (OoT version) cosplay built in a slightly similar vein to BEWD and Lugia for next year...if you do see a Ganon, you'd know who it is, heh. I know it's super early, but do you have any thoughts at all on the costume for next year?

That would be amazing! I also have Ganon roster'ed on my list of cosplay to do. Actually, Valefor was a test trial for it! I can't wait to see how yours turns out, I'll definitely bring my OoT Link then! I'm totally excited to see it~
Haha, I normally have my cosplays planned several years in advanced, it's never too early. XD I'm making Leonardo from TMNT for their 30th anniversary, and a feudal era inspired Link cosplay with a group. So I'll definitely host, or at least be part of the Zelda photoshoot again next year! I have a soft spot for anything Zelda related.

Oh...oh my goodness. Seeing your handle on Ganon would be EPIC my friend, especially considering how Valefor turned out. Which was excellent.
Thanks! I'm going to try my best to get him to move in a believable way, while retaining his beast-like motions from the game itself. My forte has always been with puppetry and simple animatronics...which is why I made BEWD and Lugia as close to scale as possible, instead of going with a gaijinka or fullsuit. Idunno, for some reason animals and creature-based cosplays are always the most fun, for me. I hope to build Ganon with a range of motion in the mouth, and some flick on the tail.
Leonardo huh? Would that be in fullsuit style then, something akin to the bodysuits used in the movies? And wow, that sounds like a cool idea. o.o Samurai Link?
Awesome. I wonder what day the photoshoot will be next year, or if there'll be more than one. I'd love to show up in the Ganon cosplay, but I've a feeling he may be restricted to one day out of the weekend...

Aww thanks! I'm hoping to bring him in 2016 (planning a villain themed year, haha). I understand what you mean about just wearing costumes like that for one day only. I was hoping someone else would chime in to help with other photoshoots on different days, but I had to host solo on Sunday too. I was worried since no one took charge, and no Zelda photoshoot would be terrible! I don't have the same amount of responsibilities next year, so if we want a Saturday shoot, I can find a time that works for everyone. Just give me a heads up what works best for you~
I really loved the mechanics you do with your costumes! I never thought about puppetry, but you're right, it's exactly like that~ Does it ever get heavy, carrying and moving each part? I know Valefor's wings took a huge toll with my feebly arms. I love the sheer size of your costumes, but you must have transport issues too. Haha, it's alright! I also love non-human cosplays (or if they are human, armoured!). Having Ganon's tail flick, would be amazing! I've been mapping out how to do mine too, but it would be more like a mascot suit, about the same size as Valefor, but obviously bulkier. Gah, you got me all excited again. XD
For Leo, yes and no. I don't have animatronics or any fancy materials to get that same textured skin. Though it will be a mascot (fullsuit?), with upholstery foam to make the shape, and a stretch material for the surface. My costumes usually have to say within a certain budget, and I want to expand my experience with mascots, because they're a lot of fun. Yup! We're all doing Samurai styled outfits (except some are being Geisha-Malon, or Ninja-Impa). We just needed comfy costumes for once, haha.

Man, you weren't kidding when you said you mapped things out beforehand. I wish I had that foresight, since I tend to switch ideas late in the game...
That's awesome, so are you officially going to host the Zelda photoshoot next year as well then? If so, thanks in advance. And I'd absolutely give you the heads up, much appreciated. I'm kind of hoping there can be two photoshoots, since I'll have two Zelda cosplays, but that may just be pushing my luck. ^-^;;
Thanks! A great deal of getting both costumes to move involved very simple puppetry - basic cord and eyelets coupled with door hinges.
It wasn't actually too bad carrying them around! I built them so that the weight of the costume itself was fairly evenly distributed across my shoulders; my legs did a lot of the work, which was good, since that granted me a lower centre of gravity. The suckiest part was really how unpolished I had left them, so a lot of PVC pipes and bare screws dug into me while I was wearing them.
Transport amounted to me stuffing them both in the back of a van, so it looked like I came to and from AN with my fresh kill. xD
I'm thinking Ganon may be a cross of a mascot suit and the contraptions I previously made. I'd like to make stilts to walk on, while creating the head and upper portion so that it sits on top of my shoulders to create more height, and opportunity for girth. So, I'd be looking out of his chest, with the neck/head resting on top of mine and an elastic system in place to pull the mouth open as I open mine. Of course these are all just ideas in the wind, and motivation becomes key...
And now I'm eagerly anticipating 2016. The detail on Velefor was great, so if she was just a warm-up, I'd love to see the projects that come afterwards.
Damn, those both sounds great. I'll be keeping an eye out so I can grab pictures for sure. With regards to the Zelda group, I'm definitely going to be needing to see that, since it sounds amazing. If you were able to go to a photoshoot as such, that'd be excellent.

Aww, I only know my future cosplays, because budget has always been a huge issue concerning this hobby. So I literally stock pile materials every year, for future cosplays so the price is almost nothing, and the only cost I need to worry about is hotel/transport/etc. Now... working on my projects.. there tends to be a lot of procrastination, and last minute rushing. XD
I would love to help host again next year, I'm hoping someone else will chime in, so I can keep an eye out for people easier. It was a bit hard, checking if people heard me, what characters we had, which pose ideas to use with those characters, and everything on the spot. Zelda is always really popular, but finding volunteers is the hardest part. D: I would love if there was multiple shoots too! Which other Zelda cosplay are you making, if I might ask?
That's amazing, I love how simplistic, but grand it can be! Stilts are definitely interesting to walk on... try to avoid hills, everything else isn't so bad, even curbs or small steps~ I totally agree with you too, having the head sit above yours, to help with height, and ratio! I always worried about the weight of the arms, since they are extended, it seems like a bulk weight to move them around properly. I was just going to tough it out, and do push-ups to strengthen my feebly arms.. XD Do you normally make your costumes all one piece, or are they able to be taken apart and assembled for transport issues?
I wasn't going to post anything on Ganon on my DA, and sort of just have him "appear" out of nowhere that year, but I'd be happy to share some progress with you, for sharing your awesome ideas too! I'm really excited about 2016 too, since it'll be the series 30th anniversary. Woo!
No worries! We'll figure something out, and I'll make sure to come say hi or vice versa with our feudal group!

Ahh, I gotcha. That's something I try to do as well, but I usually only manage to successfully stockpile certain materials like hot glue. I have so much of it, I don't think I'll ever need to buy more...It's a smart idea though! Fur, I presume, is going to be super expensive for Ganon this coming year...
Hmm...you know, what exactly did you need to do in order to host the photoshoot? Was it a very time-consuming thing to be in charge of it? Because so long as there isn't say a fee to pay, I think I might just be game to help out next year. I'll chip in and help ya, especially if it's hard to find anyone else.
Heh, well, there's Ganon, and then I also hope to being Fierce Deity in as well. I'll make him in time for the symphony and then perhaps do touch-ups to prep him for AN.
Ohh yes...I have a hard enough time walking in high heels for cosplays (when absolutely required), since I never wear women's clothes during the day-to-day. Stilts will be...fun. Did you ever get into any accidents with them on? D: I can imagine you'd have to make quite the effort not to roll an ankle.
Push ups! Yeahh, sometimes cosplays require some serious physical conditioning. Keep at it though, and my advice would be to try and build it with a few 'cheat' systems in place to keep the stress off of your actual body. For example, with Lugia I had two major cheat systems in place: the first was that the string which was used to pull the neck up and down had a small hook attached to it, which I could latch onto my belt when needed. It took weight off of my arms and kept the head upright, which prevented the whole thing from tilting forward. The second was a small leather strap that was attached behind my head. It's hard to explain, but the inner piping that rested on my shoulders and supported the rest of the body would sometimes be very difficult to maintain upright, since the weight of the wings and head tended to make everything lean forward. To combat this, stretching a leather strap across the inner framework right behind my head allowed my to actually lean my body back, and shift the costume's weight backwards just enough that there was no forward momentum anymore.
Sorry for the rambling, heh. But with regards to Ganon, it may be an idea to have a 'cheat' armrest, if you will, built into the inside of the suit. With padding or somesuch you could build the arms so that if your own get tired, you can rest them at the elbows and only worry about your forearms instead of that plus your bi/triceps. If that makes sense?
I built my costumes so that they could be disassembled to a degree - BEWD could be taken apart at the tail, wings, and base of the neck, while Lugia was at the tail, shoulders/wings and base of the neck. I always had a screwdriver handy on me to put these joints in and out of place.
Sure! If you want to 'keep it a secret from everybody' I understand that. I'd love to maybe keep up notes or pms or such if you'd like, since I'm obviously super excited to see what your take would be. It's always awesome to bounce ideas off of someone else - especially since this is a costume I've never really seen done before, so it's kind of great to have found someone else who's though about it. xD
Oh my gosh, that IS the 30th anniversary!! I'll have to do something special that year too...

xHylianKnightx In reply to KitKatJackster [2013-06-13 16:33:36 +0000 UTC]
Fur is expensive.. any time of year. D: I feel your pain... That's why it's going to be a huge project for me too, that I'm saving towards so I can afford it. Hopefully you can find something on sale!
No fee to host, basically you have to go on AN's official forums, and through their panel registration. So they'll ask for your name, and location, time and whatever was decided. I usually open a thread on Coscom to ask about times/local so people get the choice of what will work best for them. It's time-consuming in the sense that, you are in charge of everything, calling out the poses, setting time limits for how long to pose, checking what characters are around, and handling any issues or questions from the group. I usually plan ideas prior, so there isn't any time wasted in the hour we're allocated. Keeping track of things, gives you less time to join in, or chatter with others. It's not hard by any means! It's just a responsibility to lead if you volunteer for it. But ya, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much.
I have very strong calves and ankles, so when I roll my foot, I don't injure myself greatly. If you do want stilts, take every precaution necessary, no costume is worth breaking your legs, or hurting others if you fall. There are several tutorials online, that are super helpful! Some are thicker models, that you walk on a platform of sorts, while others are thin, but had several straps, and metal dowels running up your leg to distribute the weight shift. Hills were the worst, inclines of any sort, because the surface isn't level so your balance is all off. I would say don't even attempt it, it's a terrible terrible thing of doom... haha.
You know, that cheat system sounds really cool! I normally just rest by laying my arms on the ground.. XD It's not rambling at all though, that was all very helpful, thank you so much for sharing!
Ya! Well I'm in the works of a Zelda projects, and making all the props/items from Ocarina of Time, and doing a chronicle of the events that take place, so the last battle with Ganon was going to be my costume in 2016~ That's why I wanted it to be like a story impact, and have him appear. I'd post the progress after that, but not during construction~ Most definitely though, it'd be a lot of fun sharing stuff, even just in PMs, hehehe.

Yep, currently working 2 jobs over the summer specifically to save for cosplay materials. A nice little loophole is to buy white fur, which is fairly commonplace (though still expensive) and dye it with acrylic pain, then brush it out. I've tested green on a small leftover patch I have an it seems to come out rather nicely! Much better than trying to find green fur (oh my).
I'm seriously considering helping out next year then. Keep in touch, and you can count me in as a volunteer of some sort. I'm kind of socially...shy, so I'm not sure if I could help much regarding questions and being in charge of people face-to-face, but I could definitely contribute ideas, help with any set-up, and other areas of planning.
Looks like I'll be doing some serious squats before wearing it then, since the more I plan it out, the more I really want a height boost from stilts. Thankfully I'm fairly built all around, but as you said, definitely don't want to roll an ankle. I'm going to aim for making it as thick and durable as possible. Ganon, defeated by a hill...nope. Gonna avoid those for sure.
Ha, you know - sometimes the most effective solutions are the most simple, too. Thanks for hearing it out - bouncing ideas never hurts.
Woah, woah WOAH! Now...now you simply can't leave me hanging after that. xD That sounds awesome! All of it! Please, do go on about this idea (even if you'd rather in a PM)...

I've heard of that before, using white fur and painting (someone did that for blue fur, because it was so rare to find). Does it use a lot of paint though...?
Aww, thanks a lot! Ya any help would be really useful, even just keeping a tally on what characters we have in the crowd, so we can think of better pose ideas. Set-up isn't really an issue with photoshoots, people just arrive at the destined time, and we start!
Haha, ya hill defeat would be... terrible. XD I'll be rooting for you! If you have super thick stilts, it won't be as worrisome, just heavy to lift your feet and walk.
I'll reply to the Zelda project in your PM, haha~

KitKatJackster In reply to xHylianKnightx [2013-06-22 22:24:17 +0000 UTC]
It's actually quite a reliable method if you don't mind the wait (and it is a tad hard on the hands, since there's a fair bit of brushing and drying involved).
Hmm...it's tough to say. I don't think it uses a whole ton of paint; for my test piece (about 1ft x 1ft) I used approximately 1/4 cup of acrylic paint with 1 cup of water. It wasn't an expensive brand of paint either - just a little tube from Wal-Mart - and it came out rather nice, with the colour being fairly even throughout the fur. Not too light, but not too dark either. Pretty cheap method I'd say, heh.
No problem! I'm going to try and lurk the forums closer to the event date next year and maybe keep an eye out for what Zelda characters will be prancing about.
Thanks! I'm definitely going to shoot for density and sturdiness over any slight aesthetic inconsistencies, though Ganon's legs actually look quite hefty relative to his body, which is good. I think after lugging around BEWD and Lugia all day the past two years a little extra weight won't be so bad. xD
I've started doodling schematics for the moveable jaw and stilts already...dunno about you, but I always tend to draw everything out to hell and then don't actually do any physical progress until the last minute, eep...
Awesome.

That's not bad at all, I know the dollar store has great acrylic paints (high pigment ratio), so thanks for sharing again! I was worried about how evenly it would spread too, I didn't want blotches if I attempted it myself. D:
Yup! I do the same, I check when registration for photoshoots open (usually around Feb-Mar anyways, so there's still a lot of time until then. I'll probably post a new thread around that time too, or when the tickets go on sale in January~!
Ya, that's a thing I really liked too about Ganon, he had very thick legs, so you can hide all sorts of mechanics and strength in there, to support yourself better! Haha, and don't worry, I'm the exact same way. I'll figure out everything prior to construction (that's usually why I can rush progress all within a couple weeks, because the hard planning stages are done at that point, and it's just putting the puzzle together, so to speak!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KitKatJackster In reply to xHylianKnightx [2013-06-25 23:55:55 +0000 UTC]
Yep, it's the ultimate method for us poor people. No problem! The key to getting a nice even spread is to make sure you mix the paint with the water thoroughly of course, and brush brush brush. The brushing coupled with the blow-drying allows you to gauge the process much faster and with more control than just painting and waiting for it to dry. I actually picked up a doggie brush from the dollar store while I was there, and that worked great for me!
Ah, okay. I'll peek around at that point. Man, they sure do plan things out really early - even some of the hotels are fully booked already, so I'm not surprised they have to be on top of their game with everything.
Tch, that's better than my usual method, haha. I usually draw up some half-baked schematics, think to myself "Yeah, that looks like it's gonna be pretty good!" and then congratulate myself...until just before I need it done. Then about 75% of time and resources is spent on trial and error that should have been figured out beforehand.
Man, I can see all the planning out you do beforehand in your progress pics and how evenly it seems to turn out. I need to start doing that so I can actually complete something to, well, 100% completion instead of the usual just-manages-to-work. ^-^;
Idunno about you, but the rushing stage always seems to yield better work than when working on something at a steady pace...no idea why.

Sweet, thanks for all the tips!
AN is getting bad.. hotels are booked almost the week after the con ends for the following year. At least places like the Radisson, and DT go the quickest. I can understand the panels and photoshoots being done early, since they need to organize all the time, and schedule, and make sure it's ready to print and put in the booklets. When I had to plan events at my work, it was at least 4 months prior or more. D:
Oh no, haha. Well I do a lot of trial and error too, I get rough drafts for everything. However, anything complicated, or points of attention (like joints, or something I can't get too once constructed) are always handled completely before building. The aesthetics are just second guessed, and as long as I have the ratio right, it's all good. Geez, yes! Rushing always puts me in overdrive, and things get done a lot faster and still well, but taking my time.. I get nit-picky, and my perfectionism comes out, so nothing gets done. :/

Oh yeah...last I checked, the DT was already fully booked (this was a couple of weeks ago) and the Radisson is almost full as well. Not entirely sure about the Sheraton, but I think someone mentioned that they were going very quickly as well. o_O I wasn't even planning on booking this far in advance, but I got a bit scared seeing how fast things were selling out and have my rooms already now...
Nellie! Yeah, January would be totally understandable then.
Oh, nice though! Where do you work if you don't mind me asking? You host similar events...?
Some of the best work gets done on very little sleep! Or maybe it only looks so good because you can't see straight anyhow...

Haha, I believe it. We also already have our rooms booked, a week after AN. XD
I used to work at EB Games, so I hosted Nintendo related gaming tournaments, and events for the customers. It's why almost all my costumes are from games rather than anime, haha. I don't work there any longer, but I still host things when I can.
I think we just compromise and don't care.. so it looks good. XD

Yes, exactly! A lot of customers were saying how there wasn't any tournaments or events, so I started with some smaller ones, and grew from there. It was still small and local compared to Toronto, but they always went extremely well. I think our biggest was around 60ish people.
Of course you can ask, I don't work there anymore, but if it's anything generic, I should be able to answer still.

That kicks ass, seriously. I know how ecstatic I'd be if any of my local EB Games did something like that, so good on ya for making other fans smile!
Ah, thanks! Well, my bro and I are looking to split for a Wii U, and we're trying to be as cost effective as possible. How do refurbished items compare in quality compared to new items? It's understood that packaging may be a bit worse for the wear, but that's fine - just, is there a decrease in quality of the item itself, or should it be expected to work just as well as a new one? If a slightly scuffed but perfectly working Wii U saves us $60, we'll certainly take it. However, any chance of it dying on us is right out.
Thanks again!

I know afterwards, EB signed a contract to do a booth for 3 years at Fan Expo. So they are slowly taking part in events, just each store is separate on their own on whether they do anything special. It also depends on the manager.
Well, that's a tricky questions only because each system that comes back could be in excellent mint condition, or very worn and beat up. There's normally always a 30 days policy that if it doesn't work, they'll replace it as long as you still have the receipt. All consoles are refurbished at EB's headquarters (meaning they clear out all previous memory, test them to see if they work, resolve any problems and clean up the casing before sending it out again). If there is a hardware problem not obvious, there's a chance you'll have to switch it up, that's why there's the 30 days guarantee. Wii-U is still pretty new, so I don't think you should have any problems if you go that route, just make sure to test it out well before the end of those 30 days.
Downside to it, you won't get to register the system with Nintendo if it was already done prior, and Nintendo won't have their warranty, so anything longer term with issues, you'll have to pay to have it shipped out and fixed or replaced. Nintendo does have excellent quality products though.
More just generic food for thought! Hope it's helpful~

Whew, super late reply again(!)
That's actually a pretty interesting policy...I'll be keeping my eyes peeled to see if any of the EB Games nearby plan on doing anything special.
Thanks very much for the info! I actually went to a store and put a furbbed Wii-U on hold the other day, along with Nintendoland. :3 I wrote down and kept in mind a couple of the things you mentioned about the 30 day warranty EB provides and what it covers, as well as what to do about long-term issues and talked to one of the sales associates about it. Seems as though it's quite a good policy indeed! I also got a discount applied to the overall purchase (23 dollars or so I believe) so that was very cool, and the guy was quite helpful. In all I'm really glad I asked - so thanks again.
