Concerning our music talk from Twitter...

So yeah, this list is very useful. It's made by the music's section of 4Chan, which, believe it or not, is actually composed of inteligent and mature people, unlike /b/. I've been visiting /mu/ for a year now and I must say I learned a lot from them. For many weeks we've been making essential albums lists for those who might come by to expand their taste in music: [link]

The one you might consider following is the first one, since it contains some of the most important musical works in general.

NOTE: This is a picture, and you can scroll the image to the right to see the album list in text.

The first category(essential /mu/core) is what /mu/ considers to be the absolute greatest albums ever created. They have damn great reasons to prove it, but I really wouldn't recommend you listening to these first, especially In The Aeroplane Over The Sea. If you really want a taste of what this list has to offer, you could try Loveless or In The Court of the Crimson King(King Crimson is also one of my most fav bands).

Pitchfork-core is just about every single album the music critic site Pitchfork gave a high score for. It's basically like the first category, only slightly lesser known works. Listen to those after you have listened the first category.

Now the third category are the classic rock albums. This is the stuff you might wanna start with. It contains the most essential Beatles, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, David Bowie, Rolling Stones, etc. albums ever created in the 20th century. There are also some other genres tucked in there, like jazz, punk or pop. After you've done with this category or think you've listened enough, don't be shy to try the 1st and 2nd category.

The 4th category includes *good* hip-hop, and the 5th includes metal. These are only put in due to popular demand, and I don't really think of them as that essential, but if I guess even I'll have them for a listen as I want to get as much musically educated as possible.


And well, there's a lot more lists where that came from, these ones stretching to a lot of different genres, like progressive, post-punk, shoegaze, etc.

And in case you haven't noticed, you can actually click on the cover arts and download the music. You just need to register to Audioleech. However, some of the cover art won't include links, as much of the site is still under construction.

Or just... go to /mu/. However, like all 4Chan boards, understanding their lingo is tough and you might easilly get trolled or flamed. Despite all that, their community is very fun to interact with, not to mention that you'll hear tons of great music and start to appreciate this artform in general a lot more.
