Not much here either. Just getting up for work. I just moved to Virginia a couple weeks ago so still getting used to the traffic out here. Big plans for the week?

Lol. I don't know anything about Southern traffic, but where I live is full of morons in roundabouts....kind of like watching chickens run after their heads are cut off...and as far as my plans for the week go, nothing too big, planning a secret birthday dinner for a friend of mine.

Haha I think everybody sucks at driving everywhere. I haven't been to a single place where I thought people were competent. Well maybe Japan. They do most things better over there.

Sounds fun! Feel free to throw me a secret birthday dinner party on the 31st. I think I'll just be alone for it. Haha. Oh well, it's just 30.

I don't mind spending birthdays alone, means less for people to expect from you on their birthdays.

Haha, good way to look at it. I don't think I've always had a birthday off work in like 3 years, so at least I have the weekend prior to.

Doubtful. college isn't like that at all.

Haha college was the only time I remember getting a cake. But I'm sure every college is different.

i'm at a university college. they don't do that kind of stuff when you're in classes of 150 or more.

Ah, I mean my college was a university but I went to a smaller, private one. So I knew most of the people in my classes and majors. I'm sure you at least have a core group of friends. It's getting hazier for me. I graduated in 2010 before the Navy so I can't remember all of the finer details anymore.

I know that I miss it haha.

I miss having freedom, honestly. lol. I'm starting to get tired of going to school as it's all i've done with my life for 20 something years.

Ah, tell me about it! I got out of college and I was like, okay, finally done with school. But then I couldn't find a job in communication / digital art, so I ended up joining the Navy. Boom, two years of engineering school. Then a year of qualifications on my submarine. Then deployment, then we all have to requalify again. And then I get out, whew, finally done. I get a job that is the same thing I did in the Navy, and then of course, they want me to go to the civilian version of the school I did 4 years ago. And here I am today, just wishing I could stop school before I turn 30, but that's not the case.

I'll be 26 next month and getting really tired of entitled little asshole teachers who think they know everything about you upon your first meeting. I started school with the intent on getting an art therapy degree but now i'm Psychology and sign language and 4 years into the degree (because I seriously lack motivation to load my schedule to the point where i'm basically cut off from society.)

Yeah, I never liked that aspect of it. Sounds like a lot of education to get. I just really hope you can eventually do the thing you love, don't end up in debt slavery, and make a fair living wage. All so that you can have time to be a person.

well on an interpreters salary alone i'll make a couple thousand dollars a month, depending on the job I take with it. and psych. is a 6 figure salary so i think I'll be fine as far as paying back loans and shit.

Ah I guess I don't assume that most people can make that. But I do wish you the best. After my experience with college, all the estimates fell short. Even as a nuclear engineer I'm only in six figures after overtime.

not much for overtime if you work in a 9-5 clinic or something, but if you work for a private practice i think you set your own hours and rates.

lemontea In reply to KieranHowl [2017-07-22 20:12:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the overtime helps out, if you can get it. I suppose having your own practice, you can determine exactly how much you want to make.
