Which games are you referring to when you say new ones? I can list my personal experiences (and the general consensus more or less) for many of them.

Gen 4 I liked the games, since they offered a lot of post game and unique material, as well as first time experiencing somewhat 3d terrain, most people dislike or find this a trash gen though. Has many functions using Pokegear(?) (forgot its name, the bottom screen function on ds), as well as underground mining, and new form on contests, and chaining pokemon for shinies was introduced this gen! Not sure if relevant, but anime is easily the worst in gen 4.
HeartGold/SoulSilver remakes were just splendid however, so props to gen 4 in remaking gen 2.Β
Gen 5 arguably has the worst pokemon designs overall (and no I'm not a genwunner, people that say gen 5 is great just because genwunners think it's trash are just as biased) in terms of exp rate, evolution rate, roles, artistically. (sorry to gen 5 people, but Simipour, Musharna, Tranquil, Unfezant, Emboar, Conkeldurr, Palpitoad, Throh, Sawk, Carracosta, Garbodor, Archeops, Swanna, Amoonguss, Alomomola (wtf is this name), Jellicent, Stunfisk, Mandibuzz, Heatmor, Cobalion, Terrakion, Keldeo, Tornadus, Landorus, Thundurus, Bouffalant, don't even resemble past Pokemon art styles (I blame Pokemon implementing American designs).
If you play the games, you'll see this is very apparent, immediately.Β
There are perks though. Most people agree that the storyline this generation is possibly the best Pokemon has ever offered, and that's one of the major reasons to play the game. You need to play both B/W 1 AND 2 to grasp the entire story, however, and B/W 1 offers little to no post-gameplay. B/W 2 does make up heavily for this. If you want story, play both; just want to enjoy the game? Skip B/W 1.

Pokemon scenery in battle with top notch animations. Introduces Mega Evolution. Many different ways to obtain shiny pokemon (introduced chain fishing, breeding/Masuda method, and friend safari increased rates).Β Also introduces hordes (1v5 wild encounter; don't fret, they're super low level) WHICH ALLOWS SUPER SPEEDING EV TRAINING)
Major cons of gen 6 though...BARELY ANY POST-GAME. Nothing to do after you beat Elite Four, and E4 is ridiculously easy.Β
buuut... Wonder trade is introduced!Β WONDER TRADE FOR WONDERLOCKES IF YOU'RE EVER BORED!Β
And best part~~
Pokemon ORAS remakes of Ruby and Sapphire, with even better graphics, more mega evolutions, new maps and more! Gen 3 is possibly my favorite gen in terms of geographics, so a 3d version of this is just to die for.Β
