What do you typically use to finish carved and stained/dyed leather? I'm making a purse for my mother and I don't want the colour to run on her clothing. I'm using Eco Flo Hi-Lite colour stain for this piece.

Eco Flo is generally water based and thus bleeds and streaks. For best results, I use Fiebings professional oil dye finished with neatsfoot and then a final finish of something like resolene or supersheen

Is there a difference in profile between wood carving and leather carving skews/gouges/v-tools?
I already have the wood carving tools, and I am getting into leather craft - I would prefer not to buy a whole new set of tools.

Hi Paige,
Yes the tools are very different. Leather carving does not involve any material removal like with wood carving. Instead, lines are cut into the leather, and 'beveling' tools are used to compress the leather on one side of the line to give depth. Worth having a look at leatherworker.net or googling 'leather tooling' for more information.
