Well at least someone was polite enough to ask in a moderately reasonable fashion. This is the single most misunderstood and misinterpreted comic we've done to date, and arguably the one thing I have EVER done that keeps coming back to bite me in the ass! Frankly I'd love to erase it from the banks, but eh, it just isn't worth it. And frankly learning from one's own mistakes is the best way to grow as both an individual and a creative person of any sort.

The story behind it came when I was doing a workshop for very little kids on how to draw cute creatures (think Pokemon, Ultimately I stepped away from doing these sort of classes with little kids as I just don't have the patience. I don't HAVE my own kids for that same reason). Sadly a lot of parents were just dropping their kids off for this particular class, one of many I'd run several years ago, and there was one particular young man who was no more than six or so who was, in fact, reading a copy of Macbeth. Let me point out, I thought that was AWESOME. My senior year advanced drama class final had actually BEEN a scene from the same play. I was actually intrigued; I spent five years studying acting in workshops and schools and spent a good deal of my teenage years involved in community theater and professional choirs outside of school, and of course I love Shakespeare. I'm not by any means an expert, but I tried to engage the kid in conversation before the class. Long story short, he had no want to be there, was very rude and disruptive to the point where the organizers of the event actually took him out to do another activity. His parents had signed him up for a class he just didn't want to be a part of. No biggie. I was frustrated, young, stupid, and vented my frustration about it the best way I knew how. I drew a stupid short comic about it after talking with my roomate and stuck it on our site.

Years later, yeah, I can see where the misinterpretation comes from on this, and I don't argue. It is very misinterpreted, and that's fine. It was taken as exactly as you explained and perceived as something it was never meant to be. But that seems to happen a lot. I stopped really caring what people think because like it or hate it, my husband and I have enjoyed working on OnY, and if I spent every day of my life worrying what people thought about the comic, or me as a person, I'd never keep going. The web-comic as a whole itself isn't meant to be anything other than a big joke, something for us to have fun with. Not everyone has to like it, and plenty of people don't. And that's fine! Some of my friends that do web comics themselves have helped me see that, people like James Hatton of In His Likeness or Jen Brazas of Mystic Revolution.

That is part of the beauty of any form of expression; folks have the right to disagree. I'm not all that and a bag of chips. My art is terribly flawed, and I know it, but it is something I am constantly working at on my own time. I do it because it is what I enjoy. People don't have to like it. People don't have to like anime in general, and I know many people don't. It's actually a genre I would like to step AWAY from in the future. We have plans once our current storyline is over, and I look forward to trying new things and expanding what we do. People are more than free to dislike anime, or our comic, or both!

Thank you FOR asking without hostility. Long story short, it was an innocent inside joke among a few friends and colleagues that was taken completely out of context. To this day it sort of cracks me up that people are so twisted over it, but in fairness, I also understand their side of it. All I will say is this. I'm older and wiser than I was back then, and to each his own. Also I should point out that for the most part, I do NOT write the comic at all. My husband is the writer, and frankly that two strip bit is exactly WHY I stopped writing for OnY. Writing isn't my forte.

I must thank you for taking the time to answer my question! I know many artists who would simply brush off comments like the one I left, or just delete them. I'm actually really happy that you took the time to reply to my comment in depth!

I'd also like to apologize if anything I said in my previous comment sounded too harsh- Macbeth is my favorite play, and I know too many people who are quick to insult it! I swear, I've turned into an over-protective mother hen...

Not at all! For real, I'm just glad someone bothered to ask in an INTELLIGENT fashion for a change! I have a soft spot for the play myself! I loved doing the portion of it we did for the final.
