Simon Scales is a freelance video game concept artist and matte-painter based in Australia. He is also an instructor for CGSocietyβs 8 week online workshops. Prior to working in video games Simon worked as a children's book illustrator for 10 years and is represented internationally by his agent Shannon Associates. In 2008 Simon attended the Concept Design Academy in Pasadena, California where he learnt from some of the best concept artists in the industry. Since 2008 Simon has provided key concept art and matte-paintings for LEGO, also working on the game DeBlob 2: The Underground for THQ and freelance concept art for numerous video game companies and publishers. Simon is currently the director and instructor at CDW Studios, a private school for visual effects and entertainment design. CDW has held events all over Australia and New Zealand and brought out some of the best artists in the world to Australia to instruct and give demonstrations to students,To see more of Simonβs work visit: www.simonscales.com.au

Hi Simon I took your class back in 2012, didn't realize you were on here.Β Although I still struggle with some environmental work your class helped my to be able to paint so much better in Photoshop and helped me better with perspectives.Β Lol wish O could take your class again lol, it was fun. Β

Wow your gallery is simply AMAZING! Β Β Truly incredible.
I'm a visual effects student from Media Design school over in New Zealand and your art really is INSPIRING. You should consider doing a quick tutorial or something cause I'd love to know how you blend pictures together to create such a good matte!
