Speaking of kisses, I have something else to show you, and this is going to make you angry, unfortunately. Turns out there originally was suppose to be a kiss between Kili and Tauriel on the shores, and this deleted segment from the script that I also found on Tumbler shows it.

Ok, after watching the last of the appendices this morning, I am totally angry about the whole Kiliel kiss that did not take place. Turns out that the scene was totally ruined by no other than yours truly, Evangeline Lilly!!!

She protested to Peter Jackson and Phillipa Boyens that it was too soon for them to kiss. So the actors involved, PJ and Phillipa reunited to determine where to place the kissing scene then, because there HAD to be a kiss. I couldn't believe my ears when Evangeline said, and I quote, "It is too soon for them to kiss and, no offense, but Kili has done nothing to earn it", to which Aidan Turner immediately protested and said "I think he has".

So a scene that could have been perfect, and the only moment for him to actually enjoy the kiss was there at the shores of Lake Town, was turned into an insult to precisely those of us that supported her character against the purists' opinions. The way it was written would make Kili look bold enough to steal a kiss from her and leave her astonished. But because she refused, they had to damage a potentially powerful scene with an amateur romance parliament to fill in the gap that her refusal left. 

Her sorry arse excuse was that Tauriel needed to know it was real before she could kiss Kili. Please, since when spontaneity needs to be validated? I wish to think it was Evangeline's hormones acting up, given the fact that she was on maternity's license when The Hobbit was filmed.

If anything good came from this at all is that now my anger is aimed in the right direction. I'm no longer mad at Legolas.

Haha! Oh Aidan! Such a sweetheart!   Yeah, I was going to reply to your other comment and say that I "overheard" some people on DA talking about the EE and how there were no extended scenes with Tauriel which meant the kiss scene was most likely not going to happen.

However, I must say (please don't shoot me for this) I actually agree with Evangeline that the kiss on the shores was too soon, however I wouldn't necessarily say that Kili didn't earn it. Although I am a romantic myself I firmly believe that in order for a romance to appear real it needs to take its time. I don't really believe that Kili and Tauriel knew each other long enough for them to kiss then. Of course, this idea would be so much easier to judge if PJ and the rest if the crew had actually specified how long they were in the Mirkwood prisons for, and give us a clearer idea of just how long Kili and Tauriel knew each other.

In "The Healer's Student" they knew each other for a month and even then I didn't let them kiss on the shores. It had nothing to do with "what happened in the movie". In fact I could have easily overridden what happened in the movie and let them kiss (you'll see later that I have no issues defying canon of any kind). I didn't let them kiss because I didn't feel that it was time yet and I had something planned for them later. Of course, I have more liberty with it since I am planning on having Kili live beyond the point when he dies in the movie.

Another thing I want to point out is that in their original idea it was Kili who kisses Tauriel but I think it would be far more poignant if she had kissed him. Kili, as we all know, is a very passionate young dwarf and he tends to wear his emotions on his sleeves. We already know how he feels for Tauriel since he pretty much admitted it back in Laketown. Tauriel is the one who is having trouble accepting her feelings for Kili and needs to come to terms with it, so to have her do so by confessing it to him through a kiss would have been far more powerful that him kissing her. The fact that they chose for it to happen after he died really bothers me though. If they wanted to wait until later they should have allowed them a real kiss when he was alive.

Again, going back to "The Healer's Student" Fili passed up a couple opportunities to kiss the reader (I keep wanting to call her Edlyn since that is her name in the revision). It wasn't until he had the close call with the arrow that he finally decided to confess his love and kiss her. It's funny how a near death experience can suddenly make one so bold. I think they should have done the same thing with Tauriel. Since the shores of the long lake was too soon, they should have had her nearly die up in Ravenhill and have Kili save her after which she confesses her love for him and kisses him. When Kili realizes how much she loves him he sacrifices himself for her. That way they get a real kiss in and still remain fairly canon.

I know you will do an awesome job with The Healer Student. I have no complaints there. 

But back to the EE, I believe maybe Kili could have stolen a kiss from her, and leave her touching her lips with her fingertips, meditating on what just happened. Maybe it could have given their post mortem a bit more of power. And yes, I understand the whole "too soon" thing. However, it was the only real chance they had for a real kiss, since the rest of the movie situations did not provide for one to happen.

 I know you're not. And I understand your grief. In fact, I'm going to take a moment and share it with you.

I talked about how the post-mortem kiss really bothered me, however I could never quite put my finger on what it was about it that did. By all accounts it was a romantic scene (somewhat) and they did get the kiss in, even though in the end she was just kissing his corpse, which is kind of gross. However, after watching the appendices you gave me Phillipa Boyens just gave voice to what my issue was. She said that the reason why the kiss happened when it did was because it needed to happen when Tauriel realized her feelings for Kili were real and it was time to let go. So naturally it happened after he died.

But all that did was make the whole romance seem pointless because even though Tauriel now knows that she loved Kili, he basically died without ever knowing that she loved him, BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T FREAKING FIGURE IT OUT UNTIL AFTER HE DIED!  Sorry.

So anyway, that makes me wonder what the point was. What was the point of having a canon character, who was doomed to die might I add, fall in love with a non-canon character if they weren't going to at least give him the satisfaction of discovering how much she loved him? After all, Kili had already confessed his love for Tauriel before, don't you think he deserves to know that she loves him back? He definitely earned that at least. It just doesn't seem fair that they denied him that.

I'm not even that big of a fan of Kiliel (I didn't really think it was all that necessary) but even I think that if they were going to insert this non-canon romance in there and dedicate valuable screentime to it, they should have at least given it a more solid conclusion. Otherwise it just came out as pointless and anti-climatic. So really, it's not entirely Evangeline's fault, it's also Phillipa's fault too.

Then it means there is a great chance said kiss appears on the appendices of EE. I finally got my copy and have been watching the appendices little by little.

There is also a very moving scene with Dwalin, in which he fights orcs on his way to save Thorin from his fate, but he makes it too late and screams his name when Azog pierces Thorin with the prosthetic sword. I'm sad that scene did not make it to the movie.

They also explain why they discarded the idea of armor... the actors could not move in them, so they opted for plan B, which was to declare the sole war a suicide mission in which they'd die anyway. So they went to die with honor.

I'll keep you informed as I watch the appendices. Thanks for this script, doll.

Oh yes. If only I knew which of the appendices has that scene, I would watch it to see it in full.

My guess is it might be part of the BOTFA appendices, even when the scene is clearly from DoS, because I have the DoS extended and I never saw that part. Else I'd be fangirling like crazy.

Good news is we are closer to the release date for EE of BOTFA. I'm SOOO buying it. How about you?
