Okay, here's a few tips/advice to get you started:

*As for the copyright thing, yes you have to agree to a terms and conditions whatever. That's on just about every site, but has nothing to do with copyrighting your artwork. There's something called a creative commons license that you will see at the end of your deviation submission, that you may choose what rights your piece has- full or if you want to allow others to use your work (explained there).

*Avatars- try saving it as a different type of file. The file itself may be too big, not the image. Irfan View works for me- if you haven't got it...well...get it. Haha. Or use something else to your advantage.

You'll get the hang of this all soon, and I'm sure you'll love the site once you get used to it!
