Thank you! I'm impressed your work, especially the foam carving. I do most of the foam work in my shop, but I don't have your level of knowledge or skill. We tend to adhere our foam pieces with spray contact glue and coat it with a latex caulk/joint compound mixture. It looks like you adhere with some sort of spray foam? I'm guessing Sculpt-Or-Coat (or a similar product) to finish.

I use the Dow enerfoam with a gun that we get from Demand Products. They are the guy we also use for hot wire cutters. I have the 3M product for contact work but do not always have time or great joints to use it so spray glue and bambo to hold until set. I also use mix of FSC-88 WB and spackeling compound watered down and brushed on. For really smooth work that is covered with stright out of container spackle that is then sanded before the idiot with the big hose hot coat machine has a go at it. For my own work I go from the sanded waterbase products to epoxy with filler and denatured alcohol to make it flow. Maybe some glass thrown in for extra strength. If I want additional detail I add apoxy sculpt with the same denatured alcohol to build. But I am not above adding polyester and bondo! So just so I get what I want anything goes.

Going well. My last two shows of the season, (at two different theatres) closes this Sunday. I'm hoping to have more time in the next few months to do more biking and take more photos, although the floods around here have closed most of my favorite trails. I need to go through my theatre-related photos this summer, see if I have anything worth posting. Most of the interesting things I've done this season are technically complicated, but not necessarily photogenic.

Yeah that's funny about us...technical stuff is not alway compositionally invested in the art world... Hope you are not too affected by the flooding.

Hey D Golden--- It was good to see some more of your photo work on DA....Do you have any new summer theatre stuff? I'll post my South Africa stuff soon...

Afraid not; We don't build any shows in the summer. We have several rentals and co-produced shows during the summer, as well as some children's theatre camps and classes. I've invented a tool/hardware/paints caddy for our Genie lifts, and done other general maintenance/storage/cleaning improvements this summer. And one of these days I'll purge some of the older photos on my Flickr account to make room for new ones.
Can't wait to see your SA photos!

Hi Darrin. As you can see, we've been really busy at the BHP. Hopefully this week I'll have some new shots.

Thanks. I sent a link to your account to an apprentice of mine who will be graduating in the fall, and is considering working at the BHP next summer. My boss (a BHP alumni from waaaaay back) and I have been nudging her to check it out, and believe me she'd be a valuable asset in the scene shop.

Thanks. I checked out some of your stuff, and I'm intrigued by your 3D renderings in LightConverse. I'll have to check that program out.

You can download the demo for free. The demo is the same as the actual program, except you cannot save and there are a few lights you cant use. So since I cant save I just take screen shots.

You're welcome. When I saw "Until It Sleeps," I was reminded immediately of my wife and her battle with cancer. Having just gone back to read your description, I see why.
