Hey!!! I'm a friend of *Siouxstar 's. I'm the one who took the picture of your crew at Detour last year.
Are you attending this year?

Ooh, should I post this publicly? I've been a conservative Republican my whole life. I'm no fan of strict partisanship by any means: both parties have their share of problems. I'm for limited government and federalism. I look around and see the ways in which our society and economy are being crushed by the burdens of repressive government policies. The way I see it, Republicans who are the only ones who'll to do anything to stop it.

Then I'm your staunch opponent. I'm a liberal Democrat. I favor change because the world is not a static place. As far as I understand, conservatives want to preserve some sort of status quo and want to go back to a time when things were relatively okay, but the problem is, times have changed, and policies that worked back then won't work now. Think about it: in the 1960s during the African American Civil Rights movement, many conservatives were against desegregation. Think of how far we've come from segregation, everyone is pretty much equal, both with rights and a place in society where they are not publicly told "no, no ___s allowed". However, I do favor some conservative views, such as limited government when it comes to American Indians. Technically, you guys (white people) are intruders, and took advantage of the fact that we didn't know English, and manipulated us into signing documents we didn't even know what you were doing with.

Look, the points you make couldn't be more predictable. I don't want to debate, although I appreciate your willingness to do so. You use your points make a coherent argument, but it is one that is informed by incoherence (especially your perception of conservatism), and motivated by grudge. I've noticed that you aren't shy about your faith, Sammy, and in my mind, the most profound, coherent words ever formed are found in the Bible, the Word of God. The most inspired are the teachings of Jesus, where he emphasizes love and forgiveness. You mistakenly associate me with some generalized abstraction of the foreign parties who claimed this land from the native peoples who had little notion of property or sovereignty. They were tragically devastated by colonization, I agree, but mostly due to disease rather than subjugation, the Trail of Tears being one horrible exception. That was hundreds of years ago. We are of a completely different generation. If there is anyone who is obsessed with maintaining the status quo from the past, it's the grudge-holders. I don't believe in that. I'm all about looking to a positive, future for everyone.

Let's agree to disagree and move on.
And also, I should've used past tense when referring to the plights of my ancestors. What's done is done.
And not all white people were bad for us back then. The French were pretty nice to us and even integrated with the Iroquois and Ojibwe people, learning the languages and customs. They did not treat us as inferior people that needed to be subjugated. The British, however, were another story. They did look at us as inferior and exploited it as a means to their own end. The Spaniards were even worse: on their quest for silver, gold and other valuables, they'd force the native people to tell them where the precious metals were or they were killed. As they say in American Indian History: Pray for the French, okay with the British, and God help us with the Spanish.
I shouldn't have said it the way I did, and I'm sorry if I insulted you.

Siouxstar In reply to Confidenceman047 [2012-09-13 00:05:32 +0000 UTC]
Well, obvs yeah. You voting for Romney? Just asking. I'm not looking to start a debate. I'm voting for Obama, just sayin'.

Confidenceman047 In reply to Siouxstar [2012-09-16 23:19:20 +0000 UTC]
Here's the thing: Go ahead and vote down the line Democrat, but I'd ask that you'd please, PLEASE not vote for Obama. He's been a complete disaster for this country and honestly I question the intellectual faculties of anyone who votes for him. Having Romney in office--someone who believes in American excellence--will be infinitely better.

Siouxstar In reply to Confidenceman047 [2012-09-17 03:18:14 +0000 UTC]
I'm inclined to disagree. Mostly because Romney is out-of-touch with real Americans.

Well that's a broad assessment lol! I'm sure he is out of touch with certain people, along with Obama and every other politician. But this isn't a debate, so it's a fair claim.

Did you hear the good news? My mom is totally fine with me cosplaying as Asami Sato. In fact, she said that she'd do my hair, makeup, and help me sew the outfit.
In other news, I'll be gone for 18 days. :C

Guess what?
I'm near Bemidji right now! If you've gotten back there, then we could meet now rather than at No Brand Con. If you're interested, I'm here for a powwow at Leech Lake (which is actually in Cass Lake, but whatevs), so you can come here. ^^ I'll only be here till Monday morning, then I'm heading back home.

Well that's cool! I'm actually not in Bemidji, sadly. I may still be able to make it over there though. In fact since various circumstances make by attendance of No Brand Con unlikely, I'll do my best to make something work out tomorrow.
