Oh I’m sorry for the late reply! I always follow color theory for choosing my colors, for backgrounds I try and choose a color that makes the character stand out from the background, if the character is primarily yellow, I’ll use a purple background for them, and vise versa! That’s really what I follow in choosing the colors, I don’t always follow that rule for doing it, but it’s like a simple tip I use when I draw :-] I hope that helps a bit!
