Well, a noun is a thing, like a car or a table or an iPod or a book. A verb is a 'doing word', so like, 'run' or 'draw'. An adjective is descriptive, so 'old' or 'dusty' or 'creamy'. An adverb describes a verb, so in 'I ran quickly', 'quickly' would be the adverb. Adverbs usually end with the suffix '-ly'. A preposition is a word like 'under' or 'of' or 'about' or 'after', so they're 'linking words', in a way. They describe positions of things, if you like. And conjunctions link phrases, so 'and' or 'because' or 'but'.

That's just a little list. You might already know all that, but maybe it helps a tad.

'Although' is a conjunction, and yesterday can be one of three things - an adjective, a noun or an adverb. It would be an adjective if you said something like 'yesterday night', but it would be a noun if you were just saying it to refer to the day before today. I think it would be an adverb if you were talking about something that happened on the day before today.
