They're a lot of fun to do. It's fun to play with the style so that while not actually accurate they look 'right' for the period.

Absolutely. I've been doing period redesigns of different characters here and there, but also I've done portraits of friends and family in period style as gifts for the last few years. Great fun!

Nearest I can pin point it an awful lot of the way I draw comes from Leo Baxendale and his immitators (basically the Beano/Dandy style of the 70s and 80s), but I think I've also picked up quirks and techniques from classic Warner Bros cartoons and Jamie Hewlett as well. Oddly enough most of the comics artists that I really like draw in a much more realistic style than I do so it's hard for even me to work out where the influences come from sometimes.
