Im currently unemployed(only doing some artwork online for money), but i think it's important to have several fields that are different or semi-similar in case life puts you in a situation where one won't work out! mine are:
1) Freelance artwork/other illustration
2) Graphic design
3) Printing
4) Line cook/restaurant
I'm trying to build up my online presence and gain more regular commission jobs(which is going well), but it's not quite a full income. If im ever in need of more money i could always work a different field part time or full time which is nice!!! I live in a city, so there are always places to apply
I'm not very experienced and ive only had two regular jobs, but i think its always important to keep an open mind when searching and be a hard worker when on the job, because you never know who is watching you. building a good reputation, network and references is just as valuable as your education or skills. A good word from a teacher or previous employer can make the difference for someone hiring.
i've also heard that job, hiring and employer etiquette is different in different countries and areas so this might not be entirely useful advice everywhere, but it's the best advice i've got ^_^
I've never thought about futuristic jobs though :0 My future job preference would probably be identical to my current ones

It doesn't really answer my question but I am thankful that you replied to it nonetheless. It's been really informative really. I've got a few job sectors in mine but most of them request a study or apprenticeship, so I'll be on the lookout after my finals.
