# About me
I like playing games and usually modding them.I am also really into the fantasy and Sci fi genres of fiction. Fantasy more so than sci fi mostly!
What you can expect from my DeviantArt account is fan art for a lot of my favorite video game franchises, namely Heretic/HeXen, Elder Scrolls, Unreal, Daikatana (Yes, that game, I loved it actually), Dungeons & Dragons (Or Forgotten realms) and much much more!
My current endeavors is expanding upon the plot of the Heretic/HeXen series, so far I've made three entries out of four in my little mod series that aim to expand upon the plot. The first one vaguely explains a new great threat to the worlds of Heretic/HeXen, while the other two entries explain how Cronos and Parthoris got connected to another realm. The fourth entry will tie together all plots from the Heretic/HeXen series, as well as expand a bit upon some villains that didn't receive proper spotlight in the previous games.
Besides that, I am also working on a fantasy world of my own making! It started off as a mere fanmade new HeXen world, and it eventually expanded into my own universe! A universe that I do like to crossover every now and then with others such as Heretic/HeXen and Elder Scrolls. Currently I've only covered five out of the twelve confirmed races in the world. And I will be covering a sixth race shortly!
Currently the world has not undergone any real plot devices yet, mostly it has been explaining the different races and the lands they inhabit. As well as explaining how all the races are faring in the modern (This does not mean you will see our modern technology in it of course!) day society of the world. Where all races are gathered under the same banner. So far however, the world has two confirmed villains, and that is Raducal the vampire lord and Zakachi the demon wizard from an unknown realm.
I've also only developed two characters, and one of them barely has a backstory yet >.> These two are Mally Vall, the extremely busty councilor of the Druid guild of the Llithras society. And lastly we have Arelina Snakeheart, a character who lives under a stump in a swamp of the realm.
Besides that, I don't have anything else to share, you will just have to see for yourself I suppose!

Thank you, was a nice birthday yesterday, got a new D&D 5th Edition book containing stats for some old obscure classical enemies from previous Editions, along with stats for playing a Lizardman, Yuan-Ti, Kenku and some other interesting things of that sort, pretty sweet book. It even had some guides for how to roleplay Beholders, mindflayers and other monsters. Along with that I also got myself a big box of Dark Eldar to begin my new Eldar army in preperation for 40k 8th Edition.

If you speed up the tempo of the HeXen64 tracks by 25%, it sounds like the normal pace of the original music.Β Winnowing Hall and Caves of Circe is greatly improved by it.Β Also, I started to pick up on how the darkmere track resembles SWAMPR.Β It's really hard to tell, but the opening tune is sorta still there.

Huh, that's pretty interesting, I shall try this out on Audacity whenever I get a chance. As for Darkmere, I just can't find anything from the original track in the N64 version, it's just so insanely vastly different.

Well, you can hear the three taiko drums "bum bum bum...... bum bum bum" in the beginning which was replaced by a more subdued instrument, and the choir "aaaahhhh" was replaced with another instrument, but then the melody goes wildly offtrack.

Indeed. It's far too detailed for it to be brushed off as a mere April Fools joke to me. And considering Activision has given them leniency now, we might get a new game.

Thing is, I'm not that hopeful that a new game wouldn't suck.Β I'd imagine it being another linear modern fps full of cutscenes, HeXen styled.Β Making good art is what Raven's always been good at, but I'd want them to like, hire the modders on doomworld to make the levels for it.

Argonianlord1st In reply to VikingBoyBilly [2016-04-16 23:22:36 +0000 UTC]
I honestly don't even care at this point. As long as it is a new game in the series it could be whatever type of FPS game ever. I honestly wouldn't mind semi-linear gameplay with cutscenes and things, if anything, I support the idea of more cutscenes and thing's of that kind to further the plot, heck, they could even do it into a full fledged RPG, that's something I'd really look forward to. Admitedly though, I wouldn't like there to be cutscenes in literally every room, but a fair amount would be a welcome change over the "All-In-The-Manual" stories that has plagued the FPS genre for so long.

There are video-game methods of storytelling, and cutscenes that take you out of the gameplay isn't it.Β By that, I mean the ones that make you feel like you're not still playing the game.Β I even think Hexen II's little camera changes get a pass because you still feel like you're in the game.
I honestly feel that the HeXen series is done since each battle with a serpent rider got the games that were planned, and there doesn't need to be any more than that.Β The "cliffhanger" we have now isn't anything near as bad as, say, if HeXen II was never finished and we never found out whose hand was playing chess with you and korax as the pieces.
What I really want is more people to explore the HeXen we already have with more WADs being made.Β It shoulod be taken more seriously than it is, especially in comparison to Doom.Β If they do make another game, I would still play it, and hopefully it can be enjoyable and have stunning visuals, but I'm not expecting anything to surpass the original trilogy's magic.

Well, gameplay holds a bit too much sway in FPS games in my opinion, so cutscenes isn't something I'll condemn, they are still part of the in-game experience, especially in the Elder Scrolls series (Oblivion and Skyrim in particular had a lot of cutscenes that took place in-game rather than in movie clips).
Well, there's still a fair amount of other things to do with the series, such as involving other heroes and villains (or make the old ones fight the new ones) kinda like Heretic 2 and Portal of Praevus did with Morcalavin and Praevus. Neither those two were really part of the Serpent Rider trilogy, since both involved new villains (Admitedly the Serpent Rider's are involved with Praevus' mostly vague backstory, where he tries to fuse their souls with him to render him unstoppable) which was a great continuation after the three Serpent Rider chapters came to a close. I suppose so, but Praevus has no origins whatsobloodyever, which is why I'd love a HeXen 3 that explores his origins and the fate of the Demon Lord trio.
Truth be told, I prefer the way it all is now, with very few modders around and a lot of quality mods being made. Take DooM for example, there's over a million wads for it and still counting, and a shitton of them are utter crap. While as with HeXen, you have a few bad ones, and the rest are absolutely bloody amazing. And yeah, if they do make another game, I'll probably enjoy it just due to it being another game in the series. I've literally been waiting nearly all my damn life for a sequel, so my standards and expectations aren't blown out of proportion unlike some developers.

I'm totally going to make an effort to finish those Assassin sprites I started now.Β Remember those?Β I need something to practice my sprite skillz with, anyway.
I just checked, and they didn't put my Corvus crouching sprites into the current release of GZDoom.Β What the fucl?Β I asked them pretty nicely to.
True, FPS games have always been the anti-undertale with the kind of gameplay they endorse and they almost always have excuse plots tp justify it, but take Marathon for example.Β The terminals you read are a built-in game mechanic.Β Even though you stop exploring around and killing for a bit to read them, you don't feel like you're being forced to and you haven't stopped playing the game for it.Β It makes you want to read them all to learn more about the Marathon world.Β
I think Unreal did FPS storytelling the best (before that extra episode with voice acting).Β It understood that you would know what your motivations are without slamming you with exposition or internal monologuing.Β There's a bit to read, yes, but it feels more like worldbuilding and subtle poking you in the right direction than forced infodumping,Β It was able to do a lot just by trusting that the player had common sense and intuition and crafted a fantastic experience.
Pathways into darkness has the yellow crystal conversations, which is a pretty cool mechanic.
Doom 3's PDA is... well, it's a thing that's there and an okay gimmick I guess.
Quake is absolutely incomprehensible, but a good game.

Good luck with that then, knowing how obnoxious spriting can be-
And no, they didn't. Welcome to the DooM community, where Heretic/HeXen means jackshit compared to DooM. It's a sad realization honestly, but it is what it is unfortunateny.
Problem with those terminals though is that the story just feels like a level of tedium that was added to the game. It reminds me of this one Marathon stream I saw once that described the game just fine "Play the game first, go to wikipedia to read the whole fucking plot afterwards", because the big problem with Marathon is that it starts feeling like a book when you've read the fifth terminal. So all in all, I prefer cutscenes since they are normally not a lot of tedious reading that slows the game down to a halt.
The difference with Marathon and Unreal is that Unreal's PDAs and things like that weren't all required to be read by the player to understand the plot, which is a lot less frustrating. Plus, the PDAs weren't as long and text-wally as the Marathon terminals were to my memory.
DooM 3's PDAs were a bloody godsend over annoying reading (Admitedly there were email only PDAs you picked up, but their text was rather short and more chat-esque) that plagues certain more story driven FPS games. Don't get me wrong, I do like the idea of having letters and thing's like that telling their own stories, but the way I'd handle it is having the notes and such tell their own story within the setting, and have cutscenes for the main stuff, with some story specific books. Instead of just Novel-Reading 101.
Quake feels and alwayswill feel unfinished to me, perhaps it wouldn't if I played the expansions, but the original game is just annoying to me. The Ogre enemies can all go and die in a fire, they're the most annoying enemy in that whole bloody game and utterly soils the experience for me.

Speaking as someone who played one and a half of the quake expansions, they don't help it make any more sense, and ogres are fair compared to the new monsters they added in them.Β It shows that it was made during the time period when games were badass for trying to be as hard as possible and the AVGN wasn't even out of high school yet.
The pixel perfect checkbox in Aseprite is incredible, it makes drawing her curvy legs as easy as one stroke.Β The first set of sprites are always the fun part; it's when you have to draw the rest of the frames that the motivation wears off and you let it sit for months in fear of the impending tedium.Β Tedium isn't the right word for it; tedius stuff you could at least blow through mindlessly, this is Creative Tedium, where you actually have to think about what you're doing, and the writer's block sets in (or spriter's block in this case).
Lol, that's so true, you have to play each marathon scenario a second time to really get everything, or go read everything on the story site.Β It's purposely convolluted.

I don't know the specifics honestly, I tried booting up my latest WAD into an earlier GZDOOM version and I got an error preventing me from being able to test the map. I believe the error mentioned it was missing some file or some such. That's about all I know.
As for Friday, normally I head over to my friend's place already by Friday, but I'll see if I can make this Friday an exception. If the worst comes to pass, I'll just head over to my friend during the evening (It's generally around that time that my dad gets drunk, if he has a lot to drink during the day) and then we'll have to postpone it. But should luck be in our favour, it should work.

I just saw what it was going to be and I quit before dying endless times.Β I might just godmode the rest of the game just to 'finish' it... and being tempted to godmode is the sign of a bad game.
