Thank YOU very much for being an incredible artist!
The U.S.? In general, as a nation...Hilarity. Constant hilarity. Of both good and bad kinds. Crazy shit happens when you decide to make a nation out of other nation-states, lol!
Where I live, it's pretty chill, Arkansas doesn't usually lend itself to too much drama thank god...and you? :3

(sorry for taking so long to answer!I fail timemanagement forever. D': )
Aw,you...
Ah,I see. That goes pretty much with the impression you get through the news/TV over here
Arkansas? Wow my knowledge about this one is ...nill. What's it like other than pretty chill? /Sorry if I come off as nosy,I just like getting to know about other places. Never mind me if you don't want to!
Oh,I'm from germanyland, home to all wurst-jokes,lots of cows in the countryside and people that are Incredibly fond of lamentation. School/pensionsystem and health care aren't entirely perfect but rather great.
Ah,and I used to live in Bavaria(The federal state with the Oktoberfest),which is green, green and has weird old people here and there.
And NRW,which is all about industry and third generation immigrant workers and soccer.
I quite like both.

Lol, you're fine, don't worry!
Reading your description of Bavaria actually sounds a lot like Arkansas - green, green, and weird old people, lol!
Warning! The following is a lot of TL;DR! FFFFFFFF
It's called "the Natural State" because of how darn green and pretty it can be. I live in NW Arkansas, in the Ozark Mountains and good lord is it pretty! Lots and lots of trees and just... gorgeous. Do you remember when the Clintons got in trouble with the "White-Water" mess? It involved real estate along the White River not far from my house. I see the property every time I drive to see my friends! The other, flatter parts of the state closer to the Mississippi and Arkansas Rivers are dedicated mostly to soybean and corn/maize production and are, well, really gross and humid in the summer, lol! We've got oil and coal here, but the land is too tectonically unstable because of the New Madrid Fault to do much with it. While the Gulf Stream sends nice weather over Europeβs way, it clashes with weather here and creates huge thunderstorms and tornados, sending the occasional hurricane, too!
Arkansas is kind of like the Land Time Forgot in a way... Life is slower here than on the coasts (where I was born and raised) and pretty conservative in nature (lots of religious peeps, too). There are roadside stands of fruit and jelly and other homemade things that use the honor system: you drive up, pick what you want, and pay what you owe in a little unmonitored box there on the table. Most of the state is either "dry" or "humid" as pertaining to alcohol sales (so definitely not like Bavaria in that way, lol), only the larger, more populated counties are "wet". Arkansas is one of the poorest states in the Union and gets passed over a lot by the federal government so opinion of the Fed in general is pretty bad, considering.
Ooh, history facts! One of the early Spanish explorers, Hernando de Soto, accidentally introduced (what would be) the University of Arkansas' mascot (the wild pig or "razorback") when he was wandering around our area back in the mid-1500s. Most of the earliest settlers were Germans recruited by the French to settle their new territory, mostly in the southeast corner. Later, when the U.S. was pushing west, people would take one look at Arkansas and go, "Eww, gross, too humid and too many Indians!" and move on. In our civil war, the only "Confederate" state to have more troops on the Union's side was Tennessee. The whole war was unpopular and secession had only happened because the rich planters (the minority) were running the government and wanted to be dicks. We are the only state where a law was passed to regulate the spelling and pronunciation of the state's name ("Are-can-saw", not "are-can-sass", lol). One of the most famous people in the American Prohibition movement was a woman named Carry Nation (look her up, omg, she's a riot), she settled in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The last place JFK visited before heading to Dallas was the Greer's Ferry Dam (we all know what happened in Dallas...). Bill Clinton was from Arkansas and was horribly unpopular by the end of his governorship.
Aaaaand... I guess that's it! Sorry if it's TL;DR (it probably is), but it's a little-known state so I figured that I'd share what I could! Sorry if I spammed you!

Thanks
Some things just don't change I guess. lol
No worries! If it comes to this I'd much rather read one long post than 400 short ones.
And I totally didn't have to look TL;DR up at urbandictionary Oh internet,y u escapin' me don't you love me anymore.
Sounds fetching.
No,I don't remember the 'White-Water' mess, sorry.(I was born the year his presidency started haha...uh) Was there a major water pollution or something of the sort?
Hm,that explains the occasional hurricane or earthquake that makes it into the news here rather regularily.
Ohh, I love it when people are that good natured and trusting. We have some of these road side stands outside the city as well! Somehow they cheer me up. You really lack out on that inside cities.
On the other hand, do some of your comrades tend to have rather ...crass and opinions if it comes to religious, political or ethical questions as well? Because I could notice a few in both federal states.
Is alcohol intake unwelcome in Arkansas? (They're not (all) permanently drunk leather pants wearers...xD Additionally the beer doesn't have a high percentage and the most popular sort is Radler, which is half soda half beer. Or maybe that's just my impression. Plainspoken, when people(of my age group) get drunk in NRW they do it in order to get pissed. Badly)
In what way does Arkansas get passed over?
Hmm okay.
But if they were rich planters and running the government, why did they fought for the union? (The union was the northern party, right? ...the one that won?)
Haha, okay? Is there a particular reason for that? :'D
The prohibition in the ,what was it,late twenties or so? I'll write a surprise!examination but I will as soon as I caught up on a proper amount of sleep.
(Yes we do,sadly )
I can picture that. His private missteps aside, how was he as a politician?
Not at all, dear! I'm really glad you took the effort and time to share!
Thank you very much!!

Ok, the Whitewater scandal was ... wow, it's really hard to explain. Basically someone said that the Clintons and other important Arkansas people did illegal things concerning real estate along the White River (fraudulent loans and things like that). A lot of people were tried and convicted, but nothing stuck as far as the Clintons were involved. It was later derided as a "witch hunt", meant to cause trouble for the president.
If you mean that people can be crass about their political and social opinions, then yes, there is that contingent present, sadly. I could cite old prejudices and lack of education, but really it comes down to bad manners.
Alcohol consumption is seen as a sin by many rural communities in the South, it's not until you get to the larger cities that people are allowed to purchase it at all! Radler? That sounds like an English drink called a shandy: half beer, half lemon-lime soda. Man, I thought that it was the English being weird or something, I didn't know it was a thing, lol! (And yes, I've had it. I thought it was ok.)
Well, for starters we are not populous, so we donβt have a lot of representation in Congress. Weβre poor compared to many other states and people usually vote the same way each election, so those already in the government see little need to pander to us β for votes or for money. The more populous, the more rich, and the more politically shifting states are the ones making decisions for the rest of the Union. Theyβre the ones that have laws passed for their benefit, the ones that get continual attention from legislators and the presidency (and the media). Have you seen a U.S. Presidential Election? The only states anyone talks about or campaigns in are the ones where the vote could go either way or the ones that have a lot to lose or gain in the election. Itβs frustrating, feeling like you donβt matter to your own government! Arkansas isnβt the only state being ignored by the feds, itβs a prevailing feeling nationwide and a cause of a lot of voter apathy. The only thing preventing many states from leaving is the threat of military retaliation from the feds. Once you're a state, you can't effin leave!
Ahh-! You see, the U.S. government at the time was heavily dominated by Northern politicians and leaned more and more in Northern favor. The population was greater in the North, so they got more representation in both houses of Congress and gained the presidency as well. One of the ideas becoming popular in the North was that of freeing all the slaves. The planters, threatened by the prospect of that happening, rebelled, dragging the rest of the Southern population with them.
The population (in most Southern states of that era) had three classes: the rich and powerful planters (Very few compared to the other groups, but very powerful in the political arena. Think feudalism or something, idk), the economically disadvantaged whites (who were the majority), and the slaves. The planters wanted their cheap labor and so left the Union. The poor whites wanted slavery to disappear (so they could get those jobs instead), and so fought for the Union. The slaves had no representation and so got dragged along with whatever was going on. I...hope that made sense!
The pronunciation? Lol, yeah there's a reason. It's embarrassing hearing your state spoken about on the Congressional floor and having its name misspoken/misspelled. So Arkansan legislators banded together and demanded the passage of that law. However, the "Arkansaw" spelling is used occasionally by people wanting to lend a "quaint" feel to their business, so you still see it occasionally.
Yup, American Prohibition was from 1929-33. It was made into law over presidential veto (so you know people were serious). It was one of the most lawless times in our history. You ever hear of Al Capone? He was in the business of smuggling liquor from Canada or from illegal distilleries. Lots of gang and mafia activity in this period... It ended as part of FDR's reforms (mostly so they could tax alcohol, but there's a joke that he did it so he could receive German dignitaries and provide them something to drink, idk if that's true, but it's funny).
I was a child in California when he was governor in Arkansas, but from what I've gleaned from Wikipedia, he did a lot to try and reform education and health care, but there was a lot of anger over a motor vehicle tax and the escape of prisoners from custody during his time in office. So...Kind of a mixed bag, I guess.
And that's Part Two! (I'm more than happy answering your questions about us weirdoes over here, so keep 'em coming!)

Ahh, I'm terribly sorry for taking so long to answer! Life and school butt in rather regularly by now and I am, when it comes down to it, the personification of lazy.
Hmm, I see. How hard an impact did that particular incident have? I mean, even if it was derided eventually, those things can linger and accumulate?
Hmm, thinking about it again I feel like a bit of a jerk(and irrational) for asking, seeing as how pretty much any place I lived contained people of all sorts, too.
A sin as in the religious kind? But I thought alcohol consumption was forbidden within the Qur'an, not the Bible?
Haha, maybe it's a European thing or somthing? Next thing you know the French mix wine with coke? :'D
( )
Wow, that sounds immensely discouraging. Which other states are affected by this lack of attention and does it cause tensions between the people of the different states?
So there are actually serious movements following that goal? I've only heard about a few people from Texas wanting to leave, but it was in a humorous context so I didn't pay it much thought. Hm. Assuming there'd be no military repercussions -how many (and which) states do you think would actually take the chance?
I see, thanks for the summary! Man, I'm pretty sure we actually had that topic in school but all I could remember about it was 'the American Civil War was about freeing the slaves'. Finally my idleness has come to haunt me.
Nevertheless I'd like to catch up on American history a little and I already figured that the colonialisation, Revolution, Civil and Cold War would be main issues. Would you hae any other suggestions of whats worth/imporant to know about, both for Arkansas as well as the United States?
A bit embarrassing, yes.
Over here people sometimes spell something with a C instead of Z because it's supposed to feel more...oldishly? Because of Latin, I think.
Yes of course, the Chicago legend. If you can say legend without endorsing, that is.
(Haha, I can't tell you either but it is funny. Hm. From what I've heared the relations to alcohol in buissnes have changed over the years - when stewardesses used to serve wine and three course meals in buissness-class they now offer water and healthy snacks. It's imaginable in that period of time, though. )
Okay, I gather that. So it wasn't just the affair that was a fatal blow?
Again, thanks a lot! I really appreciate it! (Haha, if you're weirdoes that makes us superweirdoes! As in more, not better lol derp)
