What kind of clay do you use for sculpts? Considering how many thin parts there are, must be something not so brittle.

No problem
I use Super Sculpey for larger pieces and Apoxie for the small, thin pieces. Previously, I used only Sculpey but most thin pieces made from that material was very delicate. Apoxie is better for use for thin parts because it's better to sculpt smaller details with it and it's unlikely to break.

In my experience with apoxie, I could never really get it to blend flush-ly with other materials, then again, I've seen LPS sculpts that used just apoxie and looked just the same. Wonder if it depends on the apoxie brand?

I use this one specifically www.amazon.com/Apoxie-Sculpt-1…
I found out through trial-and-error that that it's better to mix small portions (about the size of a pea) and then must them together instead of mixing large lumps of the Apoxie. Whenever I mixed large lumps, the Apoxie would feel crumbly. When I mix smaller amounts together, they would come out smoother. After I mix it, I let the Apoxie sit for about 20 mins and then I work with it. I hope that extra info helped!
