42... I like that!
Did you know that it was the answer to life, the universe, and everything?

I did! I used to love that book so much

did you read all five? I liked the second (Restaurant at the End of the Universe) the best of them all; the restaurant bit with the prophet was great.

I read the first three. I started the fourth, but I didn't like it as much so I dropped it.
The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe was my favorite as well. I read it a while ago, so I can't remember which prophet you're talking about. I remember the guy who was preaching about the nose cult and 'the coming of the great white hankerchief'

Hmm... maybe that was it. I think it was seven minutes until the end of the universe and this religious group was present at the restaurant whose prophet still hasn't come (and he was definately supposed to, because world was coming to an end and they were running out of time). So he did appear, and then the universe ended in the middle of his speech. It's really better when you read it -- I'm not so good at telling it. Also the part where the cow was offering to cook parts of itself made me go vegetarian for about a week. I have all five books if you ever want to give them another shot; and I recently got the Salmon of Doubt, but I still have to read it.

yeah, I remember that part with the cow! They genetically engineered it to want to be eaten, right? That also made me consider vegitarianism a little bit.
Maybe I'll go back and reread them one day.. I don't really have the time now with school and everything. I actually have a whole pile of books I'm planning on reading once I graduate. then I'll be able to go to fancy dinner parties and pretend to be literate and quote Sartre and shit.

Hey there Furnosaurus, I'm not going on DA much these days. University is getting pretty intense and taking up most of my time. I'll have more time in the summer, I hope.

Ya vkustah sevodnye rana, syel rogatova barana..
seriously though, I graduated from high school went to Waterloo, and now I'm in my second year. (I guess you are as well)
I heard you went to Shulich. (probably misspelled)
I was surprised, you never seemed like the business-y type.

hesitation In reply to Alon2 [2005-03-11 21:30:57 +0000 UTC]
that was really tatooed in your brain since then eh?
I'm in my third year though, and Waterloo is awesome! good job eh Enjoying it? my bestest friends are there
I AM in Schulich... I kinda didn't know what else to do with my life (i'm almost done with school, and i still don't know what to do with my life heh) It's interesting though that you wouldn't expect me to be the business-y type. What would you expect me to study/do? just curious

Yeah, I guess it has imprinted itself on my brain ... I still hang out with Gera, and we still joke about it from time to time.
Waterloo isn't bad. When I got out of high school, I was also on the "no-idea-what-to-do-with-my-life" boat, and I chose Waterloo because of my Mom's career assesment. (I think she did one for you too, a long time ago..)
This is probably going to sound strange, but I always saw you being a translator. I know it doesn't seem very logical, since you don't know a dozen languages or anything, but for some reason, I always saw translation coming from you.
Didn't see that one coming, huh?

wow....how amazing to find another Alon out there and the fact that you're a guy is kind of funny. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I wonder if we resemble....lol. How do you pronounce your name? The best way to describe how I pronounce mine is like AVON with an L.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Alon2 In reply to Alon [2004-05-06 00:07:35 +0000 UTC]
Hi! I think our names are pronounced the same. But when people ask me I usually tell them to pronounced it as "a lawn". It's just asking to be teased... but oh, well. Everyone who doesn't know me calls me Alan. You probably don't have the same problem being a girl and all

Alon In reply to Alon2 [2004-05-06 01:49:32 +0000 UTC]
Ha....I get called Alan, alone, Avon...etc. People just seems to have problems with our name. Oh well, after all these years I got used to it. I just answer to anything now that remotely sounds like it. I even got to where in school I quit correcting my teachers....and oh man....I always hated the first day of school. So guess what....now there's 3 of us! Someone else on here has our name too. BTW, what's your whole name (first and middle)....I'm curious to see what they paired it with. Mine is Kiri Alon.

Alon In reply to Alon2 [2004-05-10 14:41:46 +0000 UTC]
Nope...Kiri is the first name....Alon is the middle. Kiri came off of that movie Beastmaster. You might have seen it. LOL!

nope, never saw beastmaster, but the name sounds familiar. I don't really know much about old American popculture, I'm an immigrant.
