Sometimes though there isn't any more reason than "I like it." Occasionally you'll find something that speaks to you on an emotional level that you want/need to tell the artist about, but the majority of the time it's a superficial pretty. :\

no one said i was here to make friends. the original reason i joined devart almost 9 years ago, was to post my art. i rarely post art here now as it is. leaving comments on one's art, is a form of respect from one artist to another. it's quite simple.

I apologize for making it appear as if making friends is the only reason not to act like a jackass. I can see how it might have confused you.
If your original reason for joining devART was to post your art, why are you interacting with the community in this way? I don't mean to sound overly rude (I'm happy to settle for just a bit rude), but don't you see how it makes you look a tad ungrateful? Sure, leaving comments can be a form of respect, but that doesn't mean that not leaving comments is disrespectful. If anything, coming to their page, telling them that they now have to leave a comment is far more disrespectful, as you're completely shitting on their choice not to comment.
