hiho ^^ I'm doing well. I'm majoring in nerd (computer science, which is programming) at CSUF. it's going well so far
I'm coming home this friday - I was supposed to come home earlier, but I convinced the folks to let me stay a few weeks.
Other-than-that, I've been piano-ing, went airsofting a few times, and what not. I didn't have much time though since my math teachers enjoy failing half of their class (really).
less drawing and writing (all the stuff I want to write and do will be funneled in some project or rather related to programming)

How about you? Are you still going to go to COD - or are you planning on transferring? How're you coming along in your book?

Well yeah i am goin to COD but I am joining the air force. Besides that there isnt much else going on. I am still talkin to old friends and all. I havent written ibn a while to tell the truth. i have too much going on with school, work and my boyfriend who i have to babysit. lol Nah I just have a lot to do and I just seem to have time and when i have time i am too lazy. Hm, I was thinking of switching over to Corel, but if you really think Sketchbook pro is the best way to get used to wacoms, then thanks for changing my mind ^^

i personally began using it because of how light weight it was - it worked flawlessly on my old computer, but beyond that, its so simple... its one of those programs that seems to intentionally limit itself AND is easily used sans keyboard - which is a huge plus. in regards to painter, im not really sure what catalyzed me to use it over photoshop, and there are some simply archaic things in there that i still need to bounce into photoshop for but regardless of what you use to render, i personally do all my line work in sketchbook pro, export as psd and go from there, so even though i rarely render in it anymore its still an integral part of my process... also, map "spacebar" to your wacom's stylus button

oh dang, the stylus tip is great! Before, it was such a great hassle to do lineart that I just did it on paper and paint on Alias - it seems I can do both in one ^^
If I get a lot more serious in my artwork, I'll probably convert to PS, or Corel [I like their style better personally]

right now, it's set to swap brushes and spacebar. Do you recommend anything other than swap brushes?

for sketchbook all you need is space bar, because that brings up the genius zoom and pan tool - everything else can easily be done without using the keyboard. like i said i don't mess with photoshop much, but space still works for moving around the canvas

the real trick though is for painter. your going to want to map the second stylus button to command/alt on the mac and i think its just alt for pc. with that you hold down the button, click on the canvas and drag out and that will let you dynamically resize your brush without dragging the sliders on the top

i don't know what tablet you have - i only have an intuos 2 but the 3's have tons of hotkeys and on-board touchpad that would let you zoom in and out w/o using the keyboard, which is the only other thing painter is lacking (other than having decent support features)

also, if you do go painter, as long as you don't use water colors just save your files as psd's and work with those - .riff is basically pointless otherwise, and you won't be able to bounce back and forth into photoshop if you need to
