Hello!Β
I Have a rather stupid question- I just recently got Manga Studio 5 EX and I'm having a terrible time trying to figure out how to load brushes into the program that I have recently downloaded, and I'm on a Mac... So how exactly do I do this???

Hi...The Brushes are usually in a zip file and you need to extract them from the zip or drag them from the zip to a folder. Β Then if you have the folder open and Manga studio fopen you click and drag each brush from the folder onto the Sub Tool palette of manga studio.... and that's it. Β Β Another way is to click the little icon in the top left corner of the Sub Tool Palette... e menu appears and you pick "import Sub Tool" then navigate to that folder where you placed your unzipped brush files.

I could have sworn I had the "Kirby Crackle" brush for MS5, but I can only find the MS4 one now.Β Am I missing something or is it not a free brush anymore?

MS4 brushes are much fewer in number and I still give them away. MS5 brushes are in huge collections and I make a small charge. I don't provide a Kirby Crackle brush for MS5 ( I forgot it) Β butΒ I provide something similar called DoWop in the collection that you can see atΒ fav.me/d6l8ikp . Β I do occasionally expand the existing collections and I allow existing customers to re download them for free. Β I will add the Crackle brush next time I do that.Β

hi there. could you help me locate a brush please for manga studio 5?
the brush is called 'Maru' Brush and its great for doing line work for comic art coz it has a tapering effect. for some reason my version did not come with it or any brushes that can do this effect. i tried making the brush myself but i cant quite get it right.Β
heres a link to the maru brush being used by someone to ink a hulk drawing.

id love to have a brush that can do this i hope you can help.Β

or maybe im doing something wrong? im using a wacom bamboo. maybe i need to alter some settings? id really like to be able to go from thin to thick and back to thin all in one stroke/line.Β

The maru pen responds to pressure the same way at each end and in the middle of the line. My guess is that you have the brush size set too high. Try using a smaller brush size and compensate by pressing harder during the middle of the line.... this will give you a greater range of pressures to play with during the start and end of the line.

cheers man. i love your work and i appreciate what you do however Β i got your maru brush and ive been trying it but its not really doing the same effect that was shown in the video link i sent. the maru pen i downloaded from you is the same as the g pen in manga studio 5 it starts out always as a thick line then goes thin when you flick.Β
but if you watch the video close youll see that his pen starts thin then goes thick then back to thin all in the same line
if you have a brush that can do that or can make one id pay you good money for it
let me know
thanks again

Anyway you could do a tutorial on Glow/Add layers (or any of the new layer filter types in MS5)? Everytime I use one it winds up going white (unless I put something under it).

888toto In reply to Four-Skulls [2013-02-10 19:40:11 +0000 UTC]
I might get round to that ... in the meantime here are some hints... These are all "combination Modes" if there is no layer below then nothing changes in the image. Some of the modes will make the picture white... this happens because they are combing with a white paper layer below. If you change the paper layer to say deep blue then all of the modes have different visible effect. Another way to try them is to duplicate your picture layer and try the combination modes on the top copy of the picture. So far I can't spot any different between ADD and ADD(Glow)

Yeah, the duplication trick is about the only way I know to get something to show up that isn't white.
